Artist Statement: I decided to do a turtle as the main drawing and coral reefs for the background. The reason I chose the turtle was because I knew I would be able to do different patterns on the turtle’s shell. Also, because the turtle symbolizes good luck and long life. The subject matter is Zentangle and the elements of art that are obvious are value, shapes, and lines. At the start, I first sketched the turtle in the center of the page before tracing it over with sharpie. I repeated the same steps with the coral reefs. Lastly, I drew the patterns for the turtle and coral reefs. When starting the project, I looked at different examples of Zentangle drawings online. I then sketched out the turtle in my sketchbook to see if I liked how it looked. My goal was to become more confident in drawing because if I really put my mind on something, then it’ll turn out good. This piece did help reach my goal as the artwork turned out how I imagined. In the end, I learned the techniques of Zentangle and the many possible patterns. Everything in the piece turned out as I imagined it. Overall, this piece influenced me to be more creative and learn to just accept the ideas I draw.
